Update 4/13/12

Well, the solder idea failed, and to this point, I have disproved my original hypothesis.  I will, however, be making a plastic equivalent to test, so that should be up by this week.

Update for 3/29/12

Package of my new mold material just arrived...It's a silicone mold, so it should work much better.  Also bought copper clay, 200 grams to be exact.

Update for 3/28/12

Well, I found out that my plaster molds were no good, as the clay stuck to them even with a lot of lubrication.  So now I going to try a silicone mold.

The mold was white, mind you.

Update for Spring Break

I made some molds for the yo-yos this week, out of plaster of paris.

After I let it set for ten minutes, I put a yo-yo half in them, to create the right shape.
After they dried some more, I removed the yo-yo. I will sand the edges and mold into a more unique shape sometime this week.

I finished the template for my site, as shown in the below image.  I also will be working on the yo-yo soon, I hope.

Update: 2/24/12

I got permission from Ms. Smith, art teacher, to use her kiln, so I will be using it in the next three weeks.  Below is a picture of my materials, or some of them.  In the following week, I will be working on my website design and layout in Dreamweaver.

Update 2/17/12

So I am almost done with the flash animation introduction for my site.  I will probably make others, as well.  I ordered my materials for my yo-yo.  The materials will hopefully arrive today or tomorrow.  When they arrive, I will begin making the yo-yo.

Update 2/3/2012(actually done on 2/6/2012)

I still need to contact One Drop (will do this week, hopefully).  While looking for inspiration, I learned that if I did a plastic yo-yo as well, it will serve as a good comparison to the metal one.  I still need to start getting my aluminum and bearings, so that will be the goal for this week as well.

Update 1/27/12

I have not done as much research this week as I should have.  I plan on odering some materials this weekend for making a proto-type, just so I can get the feel of things.  I feel that this project will be a success, especially since I have been taking charge a lot more.

Blog Entry 1/20/12

My timeline has been set, which will help me keep track of everything.  I have been researching a bit on shapes of other yo-yos, and have been thinking about getting a quick interview with One Drop.  This coming week I will do more research.

Update 1/13/12

Well, my proposal has been approved.  Now I can do more research, and actually start making the yo-yos eventually.  My advisor said that I am on track, and am good to go.  I just need more research and I need to see if I can interview or ask One Drop for some statistics and numbers.

Some concept sketches for my yo-yo project.  They aren't perfect, but will be when one of each is made.
